Community

Providing employment opportunities for 200+ local villagers within Madang Resort, Kalibobo Village and Melanesian Tourist Services; together with staff accommodation for themselves and their families.

  • MTS funded the establishment of the Haus Kaving, located just outside of Madang Resort, and where local Papua New Guinean women are able to sell their handmade crafts, jewellery and iconic woven bags, known as ‘bilums’ to tourists.

  • MTS pays the local villages to allow them to bring guests staying at Madang Resort to experience local village life and culture – providing a valuable revenue stream for locals.  Whilst their guests are encouraged to make donations to the local communities.

  • Melanesian Foundation, a NFP founded by MTS in 1980 -  The foundation made desks and chairs that were donated to local schools throughout the Sepik River and Trobriand Islands; a range of school and hospital supplies and invested in local communities that had welcomed tourist to their villages.
