Our Story
At Madang Resort Hotel, we offer more than just accommodation. Our commitment lies in providing an immersive cultural encounter that showcases the vibrant customs and traditions of Papua New Guinea. Since our establishment in 1976, we have proudly served as a source of employment for the local community for five decades.
We firmly believe in giving back to the community that has embraced us. Over the years, we have actively participated in various charitable activities. Our support extends to local conservation efforts and community development projects.
Sir Peter Barter, along with his wife, Janet, took on the responsibility of revitalising the then 45 room establishment. Their visionary leadership and passion for the region led them to acquire nearby land and transform the property into a stunning resort overlooking the picturesque Madang Harbour and Dallman Passage.
Late Sir Peter Barter's dedication to preserving the natural wonders of Madang remains an enduring legacy. He understood the delicate balance between tourism and environmental conservation, leading us to implement sustainable practices and initiatives. Our commitment encompasses responsible waste management, conservation of marine ecosystems, and active engagement with local communities to foster cultural preservation.
The captivating history of Madang Resort Hotel and late Sir Peter Barter's legacy intertwine to create a story of passion, vision, and adventure. Through our collective efforts, we have established ourselves as an esteemed destination, inviting guests to revel in the splendour of Papua New Guinea's natural wonders, embark on thrilling adventures, and experience the warmth of genuine hospitality.
We cordially invite you to experience the enchantment of Madang Resort Hotel and discover why we stand as a destination like no other.
